I approach curating as an extension of my creative and scholarly activities, presenting exhibitions as essays on African art. Most of my curatorial projects were developed from my written research, and propose new engagements with existing art collections. When curating, I consider the ways in which technologies of display construct the works on display. My aim is to disrupt hegemonic means of display by working thematically, presenting work from diverse geo-political and temporo-spatial contexts together. I explore engaging other senses through the use of sound, screens and innovative installations. I foreground work made by African women artists, and try to show works that have not been exhibited before. My exhibitions include robust educational programming through which I encourage a diversity of responses and interactions.
